Voula Papaioannou (1898-1990) is the only photographer who captured unique moments of the modern Greek history with her lens and the only woman who depicted hunger, poverty and destitution in photographs during the difficult years of the German occupation. Her photo archive is very rich, it comprises 12500 negatives, covers a long period of the modern Greek life, from 1940’s to 1960’s, and illustrates the harshness of everyday life during these decades. Alwayd with modesty and sincerity captures faces and objects of impoverished and tormented Greece.
\nDuring the film, we will still listen to the people who have met her talking about her life and work and we will see a rich archive illustrating the society and its time, while sketching out the portrait of a milestone period in Greek history.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
