French philosopher, historian and director of the Athens French Institute (1925-1961) Octave Merlier, a distinguished hellenist of the 20th century, has transformed the French Institute into an oasis of art, culture and free expression. Inspired by the mute film of the play “Prometheus Bound” of Aeschylus, staged during the first Delphic Feasts organized by the Sikelianos couple on the 9th of May 1927 in the ancient theatre of Delphi, Octave Merlier decides in 1971 to add sound to the film of Gaziadis brothers.
\nThis process was based in the exact reconstruction of this important play of 1927 and was realized with the help of actors from the National Theatre, some of which participated in that play, such as George Bourlos as Prometheus and women from the Oceanides chorus.
