Red tied thread\u2026<\/em>
\nThe title of the film Red Tied Thread<\/em> has a twofold meaning: on the one hand, it borrows, in paraphrase, the common expression used by Greek folk storytellers to start their narratives; at the same time, though, it suggests the (red) blood line which runs through all the primeval stories of the world. We find such blood lines throughout the course of human history, as the vision of a mission to civilise others weighs down on human civilisation. According to this \u201cvision\u201d, the groups considered better \u201cendowed\u201d re-label their interest as duty and proceed to impose their vision on other groups \u2013 legitimising the use of even the most appalling violent behavior, in the name of what they consider as their sacred mission \u201cfor the sake of all humans\u201d..
\n\u2026Around the spinning wheel it sped<\/em>
\nThe main theme of the story is the changes \u2013psychological, moral, spiritual\u2013 wrought by war on the human character and the inextinguishable, almost metaphysical, hatred bred between rival camps, which transcends ideology and makes animals out of people. In a mountain village in the provinces, shortly after the Varkiza agreement which stipulated the surrendering of all firearms by fighters of the Left (in the autumn of 1945), armed paramilitary militias led by Michas (played by Tassos Nousias) storm houses belonging to Leftist families and kill the local secretary of the Left. Instead of suppressing the Leftist hardliners, this inflames them and brings them closer together. Lambros (played by Thanos Samaras) and Elias decide to take to the mountains and join the ranks of the Leftist guerillas, under captain Mengos. Lambros\u2019 decision brings him into conflict with his wife Anna (Stefania Goulioti). Lambros dismisses her objections and leaves for the mountains.<\/p>\n
