Tall sand dunes and thick acacia and eucalyptus forest protect, for centuries now, the archaeological site of Salamis. Excavations carried out at Salamis from 1952 until 1974 represent, without any doubt, a very important chapter in Cypriot archaeology and in the archaeology of the Mediterranean Sea. They also pay tribute to all those who have worked in Salamis under the supervision of professor Vassos Karageorgis, Director at that time, of the Department of Antiquities.
