The battle of Gergovia took place in 52 BC in Gaul. It was fought between the roman army led by Julius Cesar and a Gallic coalition led by Vercingétorix, the chief of the Arverni tribe. After the Gauls had won the battle, Gergovia has entered legend.

Debate over the true site of the battle of the Gauls is still raging since the 19th century and Gergovia is very often making headlines, though recent archaeological researches leave little doubt about the location of this famous battle.
