The film is an account of the fascinating and adventurous story of four young Sicilians who, in 1947, as the war was coming to an end, established a film production company, “Panaria film”. Francesco Alliata, more than eighty years old, prince of Villafranca and duke of Salaparuta, lives in Catania, and is the last of the “Panaria film” boys. His colleagues were the prince Pietro Moncada, Renzo Avanzo, Quintino Di Napoli and only for a period of time Fosco Maraini. Having a direct testimony by Francesco Alliata as well as photographs, documents and films from his archive, we are able to reconstruct that adventurous era, 50 years ago, when apart from all the leading steps (the birth of submarine filmmaking with the documentary “Cacciatori sottomarini”, the first American and Italian co-production in the film “Vulcano” by Dieterle, the first European film using Technicolor with the “The Golden Coach” by Renoir, the first color submarine film with “Sesto Continente” by F. Quilici), Hollywood, the American film industry, came to the archipelago of Sicily.
