Filoktetes– the Wound

The film is the first part of a trilogy (Philoctetes– the wound, Hector– the expectation, Ajax– for instance) which is based on the work by the same name by Heiner Muller and explores violence; violence which trasforms our natural countenance into something fluid which is sometimes hard to recognise. So much pain is inflicted on the form of the hero, which refers to similar figures among Bacon’s portraits, that in the end it is no longer human. But death here has become fixed and the dead animals, in contrast to the violence of the slaughter […] belong to a frozen image, complete and therefore peaceful.
