Atapuerca, the most important paleontological deposit site in the world. Discoveries made here have revolutionized scientific thought about human evolution in Europe. After years of intense labor, the tenacity of a team of scientists is beginning to unveil secrets about a relatively unknown period of our history. Despite a dearth of fossil remains, the history of human evolution in the last 1.000.000 years is a great mystery. However, in Atapuerca the oldest human fossils on the European continent have been found, exceeding 780.000 years in antiquity. Additionally, 300.000 years ago a group of 33 human beings met their death in circumstances yet unknown. Their remains were unearthed in the deepest part of a cave at the Atapuerca mountain range in Northern Spain. In “La Sima de Los Huescos” (“the pit of the bones”) resides the largest collection of human fossils ever found. This is the human adventure of one of the most important discoveries of the century and the scientific adventure of its protagonists. The treasure of information found here may one day provide answers to some of the questions man has had since antiquity. Who are we? Where do we come from?
