The open-air Hydraulic Energy Museum was established in Dimitsana by the Cultural and Technological Foundation of ETBA (Hellenic Industrial Development Bank). The film shows the installation, assembly and operation of the gun-powder mill’s engine, which were carried out according to the old plans of 1811 and the local oral tradition, as well as the process of gun-powder production.
Dimitsana’s history is indissolubly linked to the War of Liberation of 1821. On the banks of the river Loussios there were dozens of water -powered workshops and 14 gun-powder mills, which had assumed almost exclusively the responsibility for supplying the Revolution with gun-powder.
