The subject of the film is the rescue excavation undertaken by the 16th Ephoreia of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities on the outskirts of the contemporary village of Makrygialos in Pieria. The neolithic settlement was discovered during the construction of the new motorway and railway line, and is the largest to have been located so far in Greece.
Through the use of computer graphics, and aerial views, the film describes the excavation procedure and the site, the phases of habitation, the finds and the archeologists’ hypotheses about prehistoric man’s life and technology and the region’s flora and fauna.
A reconstitution of the period’s building methods was specially made by computer for the needs of the film.
