The conservation of codex n.1 from the Monastery of Simonopetra, Mount Athos, was carried out in the workshops of the 10th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities in Thessaloniki, from December 2002 to June 2003. Codex n.1 is a 14th century handwritten book of paper and parchment, a «Menaion», namely a book with descriptions and instructions about the daily liturgical life. The film follows the phases of conservation, from the first contact with the damaged materials to the final bookbinding and restoration of the book so as to be put back, ready to be used in the library of the Monastery where it belongs.
