The Pharaohs’ Eldorado

“The Pharaoh’s Eldorado” goes behind the well-known Golden Age of the Egyptian Pharaohs. The power of gold, the magnificence of the jewels and treasures dating back to that Age have become a part of the world’s cultural heritage. But the origins of this immense wealth is still shrouded in mystery, a dark and enigmatic tale yet to be told. Clue after clue we will unveil this mystery in a journey to the heart of Ancient Nubia. Where did all that gold come from? Who were the skillful men capable of finding the precious gold veins in the middle of the desert? Who were the poor wretches who had the hard work of extract mineral in such hostile conditions? Our story will bring back to life fascinating characters and surprising aspects from a remote era through the field research of passionate explorers. And for the first time ever, we will film the ruins of Berenike Panchrysos, the legendary “City of Gold”, mentioned by the Roman historian Pliny the Elder in his Naturalis Historia. We will take part into the expedition of the twin explorers Alfredo and Angelo Castiglioni, who had undertaken journeys in extreme environments, and who have been studying the history of the ancient city for over a decade, finally locating its ruins in the East Nubian Desert.
