“Looters of the Gods” is a film about the indirect role played by many of the world’s most prestigious museums in the illicit trade of antiquities.

It develops like a detective story structured on two parts. The first is an inquiry that reconstructs and delves into all aspects of this illegal network. The second part recounts the story of the recovery of the Golden Wreath, an ancient masterpiece unearthed in northern Greece by tomb raiders and sold to the Getty Museum.

The film follows the Greek journalist Nicolas Zirganos in his quest for the truth. His investigation leads him to work with journalists in the USA, with Italian Carabinieri Art Squad and magistrates in Italy and Greece. Faced with incontrovertible and definitive proof the Getty Museum will be forced to hand back one of the most valuable pieces in its collections.
