In the 1st century B.C., the Greek historian Diodorus the Sicilian (contemporary with Julius Caesar) discovers the temple of Ramses the II. In his writings he describes “Ozymandias’ temple” as one of the most imposing temple of all Egypt. 2.000 years later, dr Christian Leblanc (head researcher of the French National Centre for Scientific Research) and his team proceed to excavations, restorations and study the most famous pharaonic temple.
The film offers us a unique glimpse in the archaeological excavations in Egypt. In quest “to understand and not to discover”, between discoveries of sarcophagus and assessment of the temple’s importance, a new page in the history of this site is being written. Always following the footprints of Diodorus the Sicilian and in the shadow of Ozymandias.
In contrast to the TV crews that stay only for a few days, one member of the crew filmed the everyday life of the Egyptologists and of the Egyptian workers in Ramesseum, the temple of Ramses II.
